Plan your projects on a roadmap or gantt chart layout

Updated today

Dart offers list, calendar, and board layout options. It also has a roadmap layout, similar to a Gantt chart.

You can access the roadmap layout option by clicking on the layout switcher in the top right corner of the application:

The dropdown menu at the top right will also allow you to make adjustments to the appearance of your dart board, including adjusting the appearance of:

  • Subtasks (choose to have them indented, collapsed or flat)

  • Absent parents (toggle on or off)

    • This is only relevant if tasks on the list are subtasks of other tasks. If the tasks they are subtasks of are in different dart boards or are filtered out in some way, you will be able to visualize them with the toggle on.

  • Color by (None or Status)

You can also add various Properties to your roadmap layout. By default, you will always see Title, Due Date, and Status in your roadmap layout. However, you can add other elements such as Assignees, Tags, Priority, and more:

You can also set your Property defaults from the switcher drop-down menu.

When you leave roadmap layout and visit any other layout, the Properties you have chosen will stay visible.

Your roadmap layout screen will be divided into two sections. On the left will be your columns that show your Tasks (including Due Date and Status, as well as any chosen Properties). On your right, you will have your timeline. To see more of either side, simply drag the dividing line to the right or left of your screen:

Making and Viewing tasks

Making a new task is easy right from your roadmap layout. Simply scroll to the bottom of your task list and click on the New Task icon:

When you hover over any existing task, you'll see a small pop-up of all of your properties:

To make changes to an existing task, click on it. You'll be able to add Attachments, Notes, Links, Subtasks, and more. Your task window will open to the right:

If you'd like to shrink or expand your task view, or any other section by dragging the dividing lines left or right.

To close any task, simply click the X at the top right corner of your task window.

Timeline

Your timeline on your dart board moves horizontally, and you can scroll right or left to move across time. The current date will always show as a blue vertical line. To return to the current date, simply click on the Today icon at the top of your timeline view:

You can change the time horizon of your timeline from the top of your timeline view as well. Choose your desired time horizon (Week, Month, Quarter, or Year):

Next to your timeline options are shrink/expand icons to help you zoom in or out on your tasks within the timeline:

Moving Tasks and Changing Timelines

There are a few ways to move tasks around in your roadmap layout. From teh timeline window, if you need to move a due date for a task, hover over the task and drag it to the desired new date right in your timeline. You can also drag across the task in order to elongate the amount of time you need for the task:

If you want to move tasks around in your task window, simply select them and move them up and down the task list. You can also select and move multiple tasks at once:

Once you have all of your tasks entered into your dart board, you can also filter and sort to make it easy to find specific tasks and subtasks as well.
