Create a space template you can replicate and use for individual clients again and again

Updated over a week ago

If you are an agency with a lot of customers or clients and want to create a template space that you can replicate easily to generate instances for individual clients, you can do so in Dart. Try leveraging the space replication functionality.

Note: if you want a deeper dive into spaces, go to this article.

Creating a template space

To start, create a general "space" with all of the parts you would need for individual clients. This can contain everything from dartboards to generalized tasks or subtasks to documents that would be the same across your client base when you start a new project with a new client.

Name this space something like "template" and use it when you need to onboard a new project or customer by replicating it and customizing it for your new project.

Add a template dartboard or document in your space

Once you have created your space, you can add a dartboard (or dartboards) and/or document folder and populate it with any tasks or documents that would apply to all projects.

To create either, hover over the title of your templated space and click the "+" icon:

Add a dartboard or folder to your space template and then start populating it.

Replicating a space template

To replicate a space, scroll to your "template" in the column on the far left of your dartboard. Hover over the title until three dots appear. Click on the three dots ("more") to reveal a menu. Choose "Replicate space" to replicate your entire space template:

Your replicated space template will show in the left column, above your original space, with "copy" in the title." It will come complete with any dartboards, folders, or tasks included in the original space. Rename it to suit your needs (by hovering over each title and selecting the "more" icon), and then continue to customize it to suit your new client/project.

Customizing your spaces

Note: by default, tasks in the replicated space will share the same status workflow (To-do, Doing, Done, etc.) as the original. You can adjust status defaults in the template (to have it apply to all future copies) or in the individual replicated space to customize it to the needs of your new project/client.

Spaces can share the same icon as well. However, you have the power to change the color(s) of each dartboard or document folder to give your space a similar and more pleasing appearance.

To do this, go to the "more icon" on your template or replicated space. Then go to types and click on the icon beside the space title. Choose the icons tab and choose your icon and/or the desired color (icons can change color, emojis cannot):

Colors for icons representing your space, dartboard, and docs are completely customizable, and you have the option to enter a color code if you would like to match the color to a brand.
