Task relationships

Understand the different relationships tasks have to each other

Updated this week

Tasks may be related to each other in a variety of ways. Here's how they work together.

Parent

A parent is a main task. Parents are useful when creating epics and linking "subtasks" back to main tasks.

Subtask

A subtask is a task within a task. Typically it's a smaller task that exists within a larger task. You can add subtasks into existing tasks, and subtasks within subtasks.

Blocking

Blocking relates to tasks that are stopping the main task from being completed:

Blocked by

When you show one task as blocking a task, the other task will automatically show "blocked by," indicating that the task may be blocked from completion by the parameters of the linked task:

Duplicate

A duplicate is a task that is duplicated in other places within the same or different dartboards.

Reference

Referenced tasks are tasks that relate to an existing task. You can add one or more reference tasks to a task so that your team members can see what tasks might be related to the task at hand:

Adding relationships to tasks

To add a relationship to your task, go to:

More > Connect a task, doc, and more

Then, choose your relationship type and task:

If you already have a relationship, you can add more relationships by clicking on the "+" icon:
